New to injections? No dumb questions here. This walks through the basics so you can do it cleanly and with less pain.
SubQ vs IM
Subcutaneous (subQ) is the default for almost every research peptide. SubQ means into the fat layer just under the skin. Use a short insulin syringe at a 45 degree angle, pinch up a fold of skin, and inject into the pinch. Best spots are the abdomen (stay a couple of inches away from the navel) and the love handles, where there is plenty of fat to grab.
Intramuscular (IM) goes deeper, into the muscle, at a 90 degree angle. Only use IM when a specific compound actually calls for it. Most peptides do not, so if you are unsure, subQ is the safer default.
Insulin syringe basics
An insulin syringe is small, with a fine needle (commonly 29 to 31 gauge, around 8mm or 5/16 inch). Units on the barrel are not milligrams. How many units equal your dose depends on how you reconstituted the vial, so run the numbers first with the calculator: Peptide Calculator - Reconstitution & Dosage | Buy Peptides UK
Drawing up: pull back the plunger to draw in your dose, then hold the syringe needle-up and tap the side so air bubbles rise to the top. Push the plunger gently until a tiny bead appears at the tip and the big bubbles are gone. A few pinhead bubbles in a subQ shot are not dangerous, but clearing them keeps your dose accurate.
Rotating sites
Do not hit the same spot repeatedly. Keep injections at least 1 inch apart, and try not to return to the exact same point within about 7 days. Picture a grid across your abdomen and work across it. Rotation gives tissue time to recover and keeps absorption consistent.
Lumps and knots
SubQ lumps usually come from injecting too shallow, the same spot too often, irritation from the solution, or a fast push. To avoid them: rotate properly, inject into a proper fat fold, and push slowly. If a lump appears, a warm compress and gentle massage after the area settles can help it clear. A small, painless lump that fades over a day or two is common. Hot, spreading redness, pus, or worsening pain is not, and means see a doctor.
Sterility
Swab the site with alcohol and let it dry. Use a fresh needle every single time, never reuse. Do not touch the needle to anything. Dispose of used needles in a proper sharps container, not household bins.
Less pain and bruising
Let the alcohol dry fully before injecting (wet alcohol stings). Inject slowly. Avoid visible veins to cut bruising. If you nick a vessel and see blood, withdraw, apply light pressure, and pick a fresh spot. Relaxed muscles and a quick, confident insertion hurt less than a slow, hesitant one.
